Summer Study Abroad Scholarships

Whether you’re planning a semester or summer program, scholarships can help to fund your trip and provide you with a unique study abroad experience. There are a wide range of scholarships to choose from, and each has different eligibility requirements and application processes.

Some scholarships are awarded based on your specific study abroad program and others are need-based. It’s important to be familiar with all the scholarship options available so that you can find the right one for your needs.

The Gilman International Scholarship for Undergraduate Students provides up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students who receive federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs of at least four weeks during the fall or spring semester.

This scholarship is offered for summer and semester programs and is intended for students with identities historically underserved in education abroad, including but not limited to: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, Alaskan Native, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, LGBTQIA+, First-Generation College Students, U.S. Military Veterans, students with disabilities, and/or students at Minority-Serving Institutions.

Summer Study Abroad Scholarships: Asia & Europe

The European region is the most popular study abroad destination for U.S. students, with Italy, Spain and France leading the way. Many students also head to Amsterdam, Belgium and London.

For those who want to learn a new language, there are a number of scholarship opportunities for language study in Germany and France. There are also scholarships for study in Japan.
