Facon Education Fair – December 2016

Every year, thousands of children start school without the supplies they require for success. To address this need, the Los Angeles Mission brought together sponsors and volunteers to supply children with backpacks packed with all of their basic school needs, such as pencils, notebooks, crayons, erasers, folders and arts & craft items – made possible through generous funding provided by U.S. Bank as part of its Community Possible program.

Fort Irwin Education Center helped coordinate this fair, featuring over 30 schools and vendors as well as five Fort Irwin organizations. Their staff was on hand to assist community members navigate their educational journeys while offering resources such as counselors, college resource rooms, basic skills classes to improve a service member’s general technical score (GT score) as well as tuition assistance programs.

The Facon Education Fair provides an invaluable forum to share up-to-date information on programs and higher education options. Attended by over 40 institutions with representatives available to answer inquiries about study programs, admission requirements, deadlines and scholarship applications – admission is free; and attendees include secondary/high school students, parents as well as academic staff (tutors/teachers/lecturers).
