IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an internationally-recognized test of English proficiency that is increasingly required when traveling overseas to study, or by companies and government agencies worldwide.
IELTS tests assess four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. A test taker is marked on each skill individually before receiving their score as a band score. There are two types of IELTS – Academic and General Training; though both tests include listening and speaking sections of equal difficulty for reading and writing sections (these differ depending on subject matter and difficulty), so Academic IELTS may be more challenging.
At least 6.5 in each section must be reached for success on the IELTS test, with a total band score of at least 7.0 being required in order to pass. Although every university may require different scores on this exam, achieving such results will demonstrate your grasp of English in various environments and settings.
The British Council provides IELTS tests at 16 locations in Malaysia, such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor Bahru Melaka and Sarawak. Please see our schedule of upcoming test dates and locations; additionally you may sign up for IELTS preparation classes to ensure you can take the IELTS and achieve the score required.
