Studying abroad can be an enriching, transformative experience that provides academic benefits as well as cultural transformation and career advancement opportunities for its participants. Students gain broad cultural awareness, language abilities and practical abilities necessary for full participation in global society.

Global Studies majors are strongly encouraged to participate in one of our Overseas Programs during a summer, semester, or academic year. Depending on their location and course of study, this experience could fulfill one or more Global Studies requirements while satisfying minors or even count towards degree requirements!

Many students choose to study abroad in order to improve their language abilities; however, non-language programs also allow you to immerse yourself in another culture while taking classes in your desired subject area.

From hiking and skiing to golf and other sports, other countries offer their own versions. Furthermore, you will discover new ways to relax and have fun – from plays and movies to nightclubs and dancing!

Studying abroad cultivates essential work-ready skills valued by employers – such as intercultural sensitivity, adaptability and the ability to manage ambiguity. According to IES alumni surveys, 85-75% have found their study abroad experience has positively impacted their job searches while QS World University Rankings has conducted studies showing working adults who participated in international internships or studied abroad have an edge when entering the job market.
